Career change in the works for Zayn?

Repritned from Gay Times

We thought you broke our hearts to become a ‘normal 22-year-old…’

For those of you – which probably means all of you – who were devastated by Zayn’s exit of One Direction, there’s finally hope.

Director Gurinder Chadha, of Bend it Like Beckham fame, has reportedly spoken to The Mirror about the ex-bandmate at The Asian Awards – Zayn’s first solo public appearance.

“We’ve met and spoken. He trained as an actor first then became part of the band. So I think what he’ll be doing is staying true to his heart – and that’s all you can ever do.”

We’re obviously thrilled we’ll still get to see that newly shaved head on the screens but unfortunately we’re going to have to wait a bit, as Chadha hasn’t quite thought of a part for him yet.

So, while you wait, take a look at Zayn’s Oscar-worthy performance in the Best Song Ever video, and remind yourselves why he really was the best one in 1D. Yes, really.

Overtones Take Over ITV With Sweet Soul Music

By The Gay UK, Apr 17 2015 10:29AM

Dapper Overtones are taking over ITV as they promo their new album Sweet Soul Music.

The supergroup, of which 3 are of the man loving variety, are due to sing on This Morning. In a recent interview with TheGayUK, the boys undertook a How Gay Is interview where we revealed that Lachie, would love to be Belle from Beauty And Beast, as he loves dancing with big hairy men. (Don’t we all)
We also found out that Timmy, the band’s loveable lead singer, doesn’t think Katie Hopkins is a gay icon.
The fivesome recorded River Deep Mountain High with X Factor winner Sam Bailey, talking about the recording Darren Everest from Essex said, “She’s cool man, she’s a really cool girl. Really down to earth, loves a chat… We just sat there for two hours and we’re like, ‘we should probably do some singing now…’ It was really cool to see her and Lachie go in, they had a mic each when they were doing their leads. It was like one big sing off. It was really cool. She was heavily pregnant and we were a bit like, as she was hitting them high notes, ‘I hope she doesn’t pop…'”

Gay Singer-Songwriter Nick Deutsch

Releases Video For ‘Crazy Ride’

Reprinted from Huffpost Gay Voices Posted:

The singer made waves last year when he decided to boldly and publicly come out for the first time. He did this through his video for “Run,” a track that chronicled the “decay of a relationship between two men, one of whom is unable to break free from the destructive bonds of shame.”

Now, Deutsch is back with a video for the title track of his latest album, “Crazy Ride,” which he describes as “a love letter to the insanity of life.”

“After my mother passed away, I was desperate to provide a message to my family and the world about hope and the cyclical nature of life,” he said in a statement. “I think it’s important to remember we’re all only here for each moment and we must make the most out of the relationships and opportunities we have, as long as we have them.”

Openly gay broadway star Kyle Dean Massey has joined the cast of ABC’s country music drama Nashville in a recurring role.

Massey, 33, will play Kevin Bicks, ‘one of the most successful singer-songwriters in Nashville who also happens to be openly gay.’

Described as ‘handsome, tough – “a man’s man,”‘ TV Line is already speculating that Bicks will be the new love interest of closeted Will Lexington (Chris Carmack),who belives he must hide his sexual orientation in order to be successful.

Massey just finished a run on Broadway in the title role of Pippin. His TV credits include The Good Wife, Inside Amy Schumer and Hart Of Dixie.

‘Y’all. I love this show so much. Get prepared for geeky tweets,’ he tweeted about Nashille, which returns on 4 February.

Russian State Ballet Company of Siberia – The Nutcracker

I love music in just about any form – jazz, classical, pop, big band, opera, ballet – they all have their place on my music shelf.

I also love the theatre, and the nuances that you pick up from a live performance, and of course opera which combines music and live acting performances.

But until last month, whilst I loved ballet music, and have watched numerous performances on television, I had not been grabbed by ballet.  But this changed.  Last month I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the Russian State Ballet of Siberia’s performance of ‘The Nurcracker’ in the Belfast Opera House.  This is a young but not inexperienced ballet company, who are presently touring the UK with four ballets; The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, La Fille mal gardee, Coppelia.

As I have said, I was lucky enough to see The Nutcracker on Friday night [23 January 2015].  The theatre was packed, indeed I saw one baby their with its parents – and it didn’t cry once.

The sets and costumes by Christina Fyodorova, are bright and well suited to each of the performers and different points of the story.  And Anatoliy Chepurnoy’s conducting of both the orchestra and his interaction with the audience was wonderful.

The accompanying booklet is lavish, beautifully produced and covers all four ballets, and is well worth the purchase price.

I am now a convert to live ballet, particularly if it keeps with the very high standard that this ballet company has produced.  I for one will be looking forward to their return – the sooner the better.

YouTube sensation Steve Grand's long awaited debut album to be released in March

Out singer raised $325,000 on Kickstarter to make album his way

Plenty of people have been smitten by Steve Grand since that day in July 2013 when his self-made video All-American Boy went viral on YouTube.

The openly gay singer gained such a rabid following that he was able to raise $325,000 via Kickstarter to make his debut album – his way.

Grand announced this week that the album will finally be released on 24 March.

Although his debut hit is about a gay man’s unrequited love for his straight friend, the singer says his music is for everybody – gay or straight.

‘The lines of life are blurring,’ Grand tells ‘We are seeing that in music as in sexuality and gender identity…There’s nothing different about my music just because I’m gay. I sing about things that I go through, but they are things that we all go through, regardless of sexual orientation.’

He adds that each song on the album ‘explores some kind of relationship, whether it be a relationship with a romantic partner, a relationship with a friend, a relationship with the past, a relationship with something destructive, a relationship with a community.’

Gay orchestra stage family concert for Christmas

EastEnders actor Nina Wadia will introduce the London Gay Symphony Orchestra’s first Family Concert this December

Peter and the Wolf

The London Gay Symphony Orchestra (LGSO) always throws an annual Christmas concert, but this year’s event will be a little different as it will be the company’s first ever Family Concert.

The concert will take place on Sunday 14 December at 5pm at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate on Holborn Viaduct in central London.

The event will be introduced by actor Nina Wadia (EastEnders and Goodness Gracious Me), who will also take on the role of the narrator in Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. This tales tells the tale of a brave little boy outwitting a big bad wolf with the help of a supporting cast of birds, ducks and cats – who will all be played by orchestra members.

Other works that will receive an airing will include Ravel’s Mother Goose, Grieg’s Peer Gynt, and Suppe’s Light Cavalry.

The company promise mince pies, milled wine, some seasonal surprises and instrument demos during the interval, with the opportunity to younger members of the audience to have a go with some instruments themselves.

‘The orchestra always do a Christmas concert: this year we fancied trying something different and a family concert is an idea we’ve had simmering away on a back burner,’ said the orchestra’s Nathan Evans to GSN.

‘There are a couple of reasons why we’re doing it. One is selfish, in that it gives us opportunity to play some great repertoire we’ve never played before – and to work with Nina Wadia [pictured right]. The other reason is musical, in that it gives us chance to do our bit and introduce a younger audience to classical music.’

‘Most importantly, culturally, members of the orchestra, and of our audience, have been starting their own families for some time and we wanted to create an event that they could share with them.

‘Eighteen years ago, on our foundation, such an event may have generated negative press but it’s a refreshing indication of the changes in social attitudes, and family units, that no-one has batted an eyelid.’

If you are in London, then Gay orchestra  family concert for Christmas is the place to be.
